God’s greatest desire is to be known and to be loved. Each name and title reveals a tiny piece of who He is. So little by little, piece by piece we get to know Him and learn how to love him.
Other titles are symbolic or metaphoric, meaning they draw on an object, person, or situation that stands as a representation of Christ.
These symbols are well-known to the audience of that time. They help to provide a colorfully clear description of Jesus. Each of the titles of Jesus highlights his roles and responsibilities
Earthly names of Jesus
In the time of Jesus, people didn’t have last names. Of course, several people had the same first name.
How did they tell them apart in conversation?
They referred to them either by where the lived or what they did for work or who were their parents or siblings.
Here is a list of names given to Jesus based on this fact.

One topic that is debated often is whether or not Jesus is God.
Scripture is clear about His identity. These names highlight the divine attributes of Jesus. They reveal Jesus to be more than just a man but God in the flesh.

Prophetic or Messianic titles of Jesus
The entire Bible is about Jesus. It’s His story (Luke 24:27). His birth, nature, ministry, death, resurrection and return.
In the Old Testament, there are several prophecies about Him and his first coming.
The New Testament details the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies.
In both Testaments, Jesus is given several titles that highlights His prophetic, divine role as Messiah.
